Causes of male infertility
CHANGES IN SEMEN QUALITY AND SPERM COUNT
Male infertility may be the result of inborn developmental disorders (undescended testis), hormonal disorders, chronic inflammations, infections (mumps), abnormal enlargement of testicular veins (varicocele), abnormal set of chromosomes (Klinefelter syndrome), injuries of the nervous system, stress and lifestyle. Sexually transmitted diseases and mutations of cystic fibrosis gene may also damage the transportation routes of semen. Male infertility may also result from toxic factors (heavy metals, organic compounds, alcohol, smoking and ionizing radiation), medications (cytostatics, Ca antagonists, anabolic steroids and psychotropic substances) and traumas. Male fertility can be determined via semen analysis.
