Extent of and causes for infertility
Infertility or barrenness is a situation where a couple is unable to contribute to conception despite at least a year of regular sexual life. Infertility is a widespread medical problem that may be encountered by up to 15% of couples. Infertility may be primary (no earlier pregnancies) or secondary (infertility has occurred after already having conceived). Couple's infertility is on 30% of the cases due to female infertility, and on 30% of the cases the result of male infertility. On the rest 40% of the cases the causes lie in both partner or remain unclear.
