FET
FROZEN EMRBYO TRANSFER (FET)
The puncture of ovaries retrieves 5-20 ova on average. Approximately 70% of ova are fertilised and develop into embryos. To avoid multiple pregnancies 1-2 embryos are transferred into the uterus. Embryos left from transfer are frozen and maintained in liquid nitrogen refrigerator (-196 °C). Upon failed IVF procedure thawed embryos can be transferred into the uterus during some of the following menstrual cycles. FET increases the likelihood of conception for women that have undergone IVF procedure by 1/3. Furthermore, FET helps to make the infertility treatment cheaper. Pursuing the Artificial Insemination and Embryo Protection Act valid in Estonia, frozen embryos can be preserved for up to seven years.
